Skyline Innovations Collaborates with DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products to Utilize a Renewable High-performance Glycol Alternative
Wilmington, Del., January 31, 2014 – DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products collaborated with Skyline Innovations, Inc. to launch the company’s first solar thermal installation using a heat transfer fluid based on Susterra® 1,3-propanediol. Susterra® propanediol offers solar thermal equipment owners a high performing, biobased glycol which can improve energy efficiency and reduce maintenance costs.
Susterra® is certified 100 percent biobased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, making it attractive for companies seeking to add renewable content to their products. A peer reviewed life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrates that the production of biobased propanediol offers significant environmental benefits including up to 40 percent less greenhouse gas emissions and 40 percent less non-renewable energy used in production vs. petroleum-based glycols.
Skyline Innovations is a national leader in the development and financing of commercial-scale solar thermal systems. During the past five years, the Washington, DC-based company has developed an advanced technology platform that integrates real-time solar system monitoring and customer utility billing information, the data and analytics from which enables the measurement and validation of actual customer savings. For Skyline’s glycol-based thermal systems, this heat transfer fluid circulates between the solar heating collectors and storage tank and has the advantage of freeze protection in colder climates.
“DuPont Tate & Lyle is pleased to offer Skyline Innovations a renewable glycol that will improve system performance, and we will continue to collaborate with Skyline to expand the adoption of solar thermal technologies,” said Lirys Cullinan, market development manager for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products.
“Skyline is always looking for new products and practices to increase system efficiency and reduce costs. This collaboration with DuPont Tate & Lyle advances Skyline’s mission to better provide more affordable clean energy options to commercial properties, multifamily housing, and small businesses,” said Brian Gottlieb, Skyline Innovations COO.
