DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Receives USDA BioPreferred Label for Zemea®

Zemea® is Now Certified as a 100% Biobased Ingredient

Wilmington, DE., AUGUST 04, 2011 – DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products today announced that its renewably sourced Zemea® propanediol has been reviewed and certified by the USDA as a 100% biobased ingredient. Companies seeking to develop biobased formulations can be confident that Zemea® will add to the overall biobased content of their products.

Zemea® is a natural ingredient developed for use in cosmetics, personal care and home cleaning products. It is a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based glycols where the product’s lack of skin irritation, improved moisturization and excellent sensorial attributes are benefits. The USDA approval adds to the growing list of independent certifications for Zemea®, which has also been recognized by Ecocert ™ and the Natural Products Association as an ingredient of natural origin.

Under the USDA’s BioPreferred℠ program, biobased products are defined as those composed wholly or significantly of agricultural ingredients. Formulators interested in using biobased ingredients can find the USDA BioPreferred℠ listing for Zemea® propanediol on the BioPreferred℠ website www.biopreferred.gov/.
