Susterra® Propanediol Used in Greenway® Solar Heat Transfer Fluids
DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products and Climalife Collaborate on New Biobased Fluid
Wilmington, Del., March 22, 2013 – DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products announces the introduction of Greenway® solar heat transfer fluids manufactured by Climalife and made with Susterra® propanediol. Susterra® propanediol offers solar thermal equipment owners a high performing, biobased glycol which can improve energy efficiency and reduce maintenance costs. Susterra® is certified 100 percent biobased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, making it attractive for companies seeking to add renewable content to their products. A peer reviewed life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrates that the production of biobased propanediol offers significant environmental benefits including up to 40 percent less greenhouse gas emissions and 40 percent less non-renewable energy used in production vs. petroleum-based glycols.
Four years ago Climalife started a close cooperation with DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products on Susterra® development for thermal fluid applications. This fruitful and successful European partnership has been evidenced by the launch of the Greenway® heat transfer fluid range. After the launch of this new product range, Climalife developed new products for the solar thermal and heat pump markets, partnering with many of the major heating manufacturers. A new Greenway® product was recently launched for refrigeration applications, extending the scope of the Greenway® offering.
“The Greenway® biobased heat transfer fluids offer unique technical properties such as excellent thermal stability at high temperature for thermal solar applications, and low viscosity at low temperature for cooling applications. Benefits of using Greenway® heat transfer fluids include thermal solar systems that last longer and cooling systems that are more energy efficient,” reported Laurent Assoun, business unit manager-building and residential at Climalife.
“Susterra® is an alternative glycol often selected for its superior physical properties over traditional propylene glycol,” said Doug Hopek, market development manager for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. “We encourage industry practitioners to explore more sustainable alternatives.”
“We are proud to be associated with Climalife, commented Denis Burlaud, account executive for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. They are leading their industry by developing an innovative line of renewably sourced products that provide outstanding performance while significantly reducing environmental footprint documented by a complete life cycle assessment (LCA).”
For more than a century, Climalife, part of the Dehon group, has been Europe’s specialist in cooling fluids for refrigeration and air conditioning. Its activeness and commitments in terms of quality and protecting the environment also have enabled it to gain cutting-edge expertise in the fields of heating and renewable energy. Climalife has become a #1 solution provider for climatic systems in Europe.
